Wow!! What a wonderful day we had in school celebrating our 60th anniversary. The children (and staff!) came to school dressed ready for a party and we certainly had some fun! The children spent the morning in their house groups rotating around a selection of activities. It was lovely to hear the children singing and watch them dancing to some 60’s tunes! The children had a great time on our ‘Birches Treasure Hunt’ where they were challenged to identify the location of photographs taken in years gone by…some were trickier than others! The morning was ended with the whole school performing their dance on the playground!
The children enjoyed a treat lunch specially prepared by our school kitchen and then spent the afternoon enjoying a Disney film from the school’s first decade – the smell of popcorn around school was enough to make your mouth water! It was lovely to end the day with parents who were able to join us on the playground to listen to the children sing ‘She Loves Me’ and a rendition of Happy Birthday followed by refreshments and a chance to look at some of our photos and items from the schools history.
We were delighted to be joined in school during the day by past member of staff Eileen Hughes, past pupil and Chair of Governors Helen Blunt as well as the first ever pupil to have gone on roll at Birches when it opened in 1959; Genine Riley. A huge thank you to our visitors who helped to make the day special. I’d also like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful PFA who helped serve refreshments and purchased a commemorative bookmark for each child to keep as a memento of the occasion.
Now, all that leaves me to say is HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIRCHES!! Here’s to the next 60 years!
